Cowboy Chic
New Texas Cuisine in Millionaire Ranch Setting

Rugged pioneers, wide-open skies and broad plains have long been part of Texas' country myths and legends. It's a state that knows no bounds. Neither does its food. With more than five-years under its belt and three of the most premiere locations in the South, Star Canyon is a restaurant on the forefront of southern hospitality.

The Star Canyon menu is a nod to the many different cultural and historical eras of Texas, with carefully selected products indigenous to Texas and Mexico. The rustic décor, with its terra cotta tiles, barbed wire, steer sculpture and open hearth, brings to mind the sophisticated ranches of the old west. The dropped ceiling, featuring panels branded with Texas towns, artist Sonja Devine's mural of cowboys and cowgirls, Stetsons displayed in primary colors and hand-tooled artistic boots add cowboy whimsy to the millionaire ranch.

Dining at Star Canyon guarantees a quintessential Texas experience with innovative touches, chic western décor and New Texas cuisine. Whether bar-side, seated in the main room or private dining room, Star Canyon is as welcoming as any west Texas ranch. The dishes are adaptations of Texas' regional recipes combining indigenous southwestern spices, fruits and vegetables to create a taste as big as the state. A flair for layering tastes and textures results in some of the most memorable dishes on the menu. Barbecued Mussels served on goat cheese-scallion toast and Barbecued Duck Tacos served with spicy Napa cabbage and covered with banana-pine nut salsa leave diners wanting more.

Adding to the allure of the dining room, with its cactus accents and rich western colors evoking the charm of Texas culture, are entrees filled with the cowboy spirit and hearty barbecued meats served with wood roasted vegetables. The menu features a number of fine grilled dishes, including Star Canyon's signature entrees such as the Bone-In Cowboy Ribeye, a generous cut of beef served with pinto-wild mushroom ragout and red-hot Red Chile Onion Rings, or Grilled Lamb, cooked to perfection on a crackling hickory fire, accompanied by mushroom-cuitlacoche enchiladas covered with manchamanteles sauce.

The food at Star Canyon is appropriately hearty, but there are also tasty alternatives. New Texas Cuisine also features seafood from the Gulf Coast and area farm-raised fish. Dishes such as Pan-Seared Snapper served with a robust wild-rice jambalaya and mouth-watering mango salsa and yellow pepper mojo offer a lighter alternative. Even in Texas, vegetarians are welcome with a medley complete with wood-roasted corn, succulent caramelized onion tamale with Asian pear relish, Sweet potato gratin and grilled Portobello mushrooms.

Rich and savory fare deserves a grand finish. Diners can ride off into the sunset with Star Canyon confections that are as large as the legends of the state. The Texas Tornado is a storm of frozen Mexican chocolate parfait and sour cherry compote, while the preternatural Star Canyon Heaven and Hell Cake offers the best of both worlds with seven fiendish layers of devil's food cake, angel food cake and peanut butter mousse encased in chocolate ganache.

Star Canyon is Cowboy Heaven. Steaks. Margaritas. Southern Hospitality.
